High Ability Reading Teacher: Mrs. Busch

My name is Julie Busch and I teach in the Cottage with Mrs. Woods. I received my B.A. in Social Science and completed post-grad Elementary Education at San Jose State University. I previously taught for 11 years in San Jose, California. This is my third year of teaching at Sandburg.

My family moved to Littleton 12 years ago. I have one son who attends Heritage High School and one at CU Boulder. They have been involved in the gifted program, Tech Students Association, music programs, and more! My husband, sons, and I enjoy music, sports, and taking family bike rides. I also enjoy sewing, (especially quilting), as a hobby.

I feel very fortunate to be working at Sandburg with such a wonderful and staff and community. I hope to continue to challenge students as well as help them to be enthusiastic to learn!

Facilitator of Gifted and Talented & Cottage Math Instructor: Mrs. Woods

Meeting the needs of gifted learners and their parents is one of my great passions.  Student strengths, needs, and interests vary greatly, so I try to adjust programming to meet their profiles as much as possible.  I realize, too, that parents can face difficult decisions and challenges different from what other parents experience.  I am available as a resource to you when needed.

In terms of background, I have been fortunate to work about 15 years in this specialized field plus another eight years in education in various positions.  This is my ninth year as a Facilitator of Gifted and Talented here at Carl Sandburg.  During that time I have enjoyed working and learning from many fantastic learners and their families.  I am a member of the Colorado Academy for the Educators of the Gifted, Talented, and Creative, was the Teacher of the Year for the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented in 2003, and hold both an MA and Colorado endorsement in Gifted.  I received my B.S. from Eastern Michigan University with a major in English and American Literature and Language with an Elementary Science group minor.

My husband is a patient, supporting, and loving partner who has somehow tolerated me for more than three decades.  We are the proud parents of four adult children: a Navy pilot, an industrial designer, a marine and atmospheric physicist, and a law student.
