Sandburg's 1st & 2nd graders champion literacy by reading to preschoolers as "book buddies" on a weekly basis. In doing so, Sandburg earns bonus points from the Campbell's Labels for Education program. Thank you to parent Sara Albee for submitting the paperwork to earn points for our school; and thanks to all the students who make learning fun at Sandburg!

At the District level, students have the opportunity to receive gift certificates for local book stores and the opportunity for their poster to represent Littleton Public Schools at the Colorado State competition. The winners of the Colorado Poster contest receive a $100 savings bond. If they place at the state level, their poster is sent to the National competition. The winner of the National competition receives a $1000 savings bond and has their poster printed for distribution across the United States.

Over the past four years we have had several Littleton Public School students take honors at the state contest and continue on to compete at the National level. Students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth Grade are eligible to participate. The theme for this year’s poster is: ‘Avoid Harm, Obey the Stop Arm’.

 Spelling Bee Minimize

Sandburg’s Oral Spelling Bee set a record for the number of rounds held-well over 20 this year on January 30, 2008. After some heated spelling, Erin K. took first place, Baergen S. placed 2nd, Colleen R. earned third place, while Heidi S. and Teagan M. tied at fourth place. Mick B., Alex Be., Alicia C., Audrey H., Arthur M., Ian P., Ellen S., and Cole W. were strong competitors as other winners of last week’s written bee. Good sportsmanship was very evident in the excellent student conduct and smiles exhibited. Thank you to all the people who helped out - from placing furniture, setting up microphones, etcetera.  A special thanks to Michael S, who was our videographer. Our judges were Mrs. Busch, Mrs. Mosley, and Mrs. Tejan. Mrs. Clark was our pronouncer. Thank you also to Mrs. Seerveld and Mrs. Fincham for their technical assistance and to Mr. Rowe for his graciousness in use of equipment. The top three spellers will now progress to the Littleton Public School District Written Spelling Bee. The District Oral Bee will be at 3 p.m. on Wed., March 5th at Powell Middle School
