Each child received a reading summary in their Friday Folder last week.  Your child will need to write a short summary about the section they read.  These summaries are due every Friday. 

I ended our book discussion group by having each child write a letter to the author explaining how much they enjoyed reading their book.  After writing a rough draft and a final copy, we got all of the letters mailed and are now anxiously waiting for a reply.

After some wonderful book discussions, we are moving on to independent reading.  We will continue this until the end of the school year.  Your child will be reading a variety of books while completing a structured pamphlet that allows for predictions, analysis, visuals, and summarizing.  At this time, I will be completing the final benchmark of the year to determine what reading level your child is at.
