Our reading time will consist of a mini lesson.  During this time we will participate in shared reading, interactive reading and think alouds.  Guided reading and independent or group reading will follow the whole class instruction. 

In the Reader’s Workshop students will be introduced to a variety of genres.  Students will work on improving their reading skills and strategies.  Additionally, they will learn about various authors and literary styles through our author study units. 

We will kick off the year with an author study on Yoshiko Uchida.  We will be reading her autobiography.  The students will then read a fiction novel in which they will complete activities with others reading the same book.
