The 5th grade science curriculum has three main components. Human body systems, astronomy, and magnetism & electricity are explored.
- The first science unit we explore is the human body. We cover the major body systems including the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous (including sensory systems eye and ear), and integumentary (skin). During the unit we will dissect a cow's eye as well as a lambs heart. The students will also complete an indepth research paper covering a disease that affects one of these systems.
- The second unit we cover is astronomy. We cover the life cycle of stars, constellations, and galaxies.
- The final unit we cover is magnetism & electricity. We focus on matter and energy. We examine physical properties of magnets, polarity, attraction/repulsion, force, and energy. We cover the relationship between magnets and electricity and observe and describe parts of an electrical system.
