2007-2008 School Year Awards
Outstanding Attendance Awards are given to any student who has been at school every day of the school year up to and including the day of the award ceremony.
President’s Fitness Awards are given to any student who meets or exceeds performance expectations on each of the fitness tests at their grade level.
Permanent Art Collection Recognition is given to one or more students whose artwork exemplifies exceptional skills in the area of visual arts at their grade level.
The American Citizenship Award is sponsored by The National Association of Elementary School Principals. Students can be selected for this award by their teacher or class. Students who receive this award should exemplify the qualities of a good citizen. For example, students may be recognized for:
• participating in school and/or community service.
• maintaining a positive attitude toward classmates, school and community.
• displaying an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility.
• possessing strength of character and the courage to do what is right.
• promoting citizenship at our school or community through other activities.
The President’s Award for Educational Excellence is sponsored by U.S. Department of Education, in partnership with the National Association of Elementary School Principals. This award is based on academic achievement only and given to fifth graders. It is not an award for educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in academic subjects. Students must meet the following requirements to receive this award:
• Maintain an A or better in the core subject areas of: reading, writing, math, social studies and science for the current school year.
• Demonstration of high motivation, initiative, integrity, intellectual depth, leadership qualities and/or exceptional judgment.
• Outstanding Attendance. (Criteria listed above.)
• Recommendations from the student’s teacher based on achievement in one or more core curriculum area and from one other staff member addressing achievement in another area of learning or co-curricular activity.
